TERF31/Harbour Sun (tracked since 6/16/23)

HWF tracked bald eagle TERF31/Harbour Sun was tagged and banded on June 15, 2023, and released the following morning.

Harbour Sun and her mate Eagle Eye have a nest in West Vancouver, 4ight next to the territory of TERF26/Annie. There’s anecdotal evidence that eagles have been in the area since at least 1999, and the nest has been monitored since 2009. The nest is on private property so we aren’t sharing a lot of details, but we do know that the pair nested on a hillside back from the water from 2009 through 2022, and moved to a new location nearer shore this year.

Updates

Thanks to reports from local observers, we know that Harbour Sun and her mate laid at least two eggs around March 21st, which would put hatching around April 25th. Signs of feeding were seen on April 26th, and two chicks were seen on the 27th. Sadly something apparently happened in mid-May; beginning May 16, only one chick was seen. As of July 9, that eaglet is between 10 and 11 weeks old, so could fledge at any time.
